You have to go see this for yourself. Don't listen to the negative criticism, keep an open mind. This movie was great. I think the directing, the story line, the acting, and the plot are excellent. If this were just a book I came across I would definitely want to see it in a movie. That having been said, they picked the perfect cast. I hope Jessica Chastain gets and Oscar for this, as she was better in this than in Zero Dark Thirty, which came out in theaters the same time as mama. It does not have to be a bloody gruesome movie to be intelligent and scary. I was so freaked a couple times I jumped in my seat. I give it 10 of 10.

Guillermo del Toro

I was force to see this by my friend. I chose Identity Theft last week and he chose Mama this week. I was dreading seeing this...until I saw "Guillermo del Toro" as executive producer in the opening credits. Guillermo del Toro name has gravitas with movies such as Pan's Labyrinth, the Hellboy movies, and Blade 2. I was right as this was actually a very enjoyable horror movie. It scared and creeped me out more than any horror movie since I saw Halloween as a child in the 90s. It wouldn't really be scary if you saw it a second time, but the ending is what convinced me this was a good movie. It was typical with what I expect from a movie that is heavily influenced by del Toro's involvement. Anyone who has seen Pan's Labyrinth will understand. I heavily recommend this movie, especially while it is still in theaters.

Good film overall, hated the ending

The film overall was everything I like in a scary movie, suspense, emotion, and lack of gore. I tend to favor movies that are heavier into scaring you by building up suspense and having something jump out when you least suspect it. Versus having a ton of unnecessary gore. What I didn't like was the ending. I felt like it wasn't fully thought through.

cliché, corny, laughable - terrible movie

I was so excited for this movie ever since I saw the trailer. I am a big fan of Guillermo del Toro's work, specially The Orphanage, but Mama did not at all live up to expectations. The beginning started off exciting but as the movie progressed it was cheesy with laughable scares. Literally people in the theater laughed at every "scary" part of the movie. It has every horror movie cliché you can imagine: ghost int he closet, going to the haunted house at night, ect. The ending was completely ridiculous and absolutely comical. Wouldn't even wait to watch this as a rental. Good idea but extremely poorly executed.
