I found the movie very entertaining. I laughed, I thought yep that's a man thing, I was sad and I went home satisfied with money well spent.

Poor writing and inappropriate casting makes this movie unbearable to sit through. Love Michelle Pfeiffer, but she just could not pull of a phony NY accent and attitude - she couldn't lose her Midwestern "r". Every other scene is one of the kids beating up someone. Such a disappointment for DeNiro.
We were excited to see it because the theme of the movie is a copy of a Netfllix original series. If you want to watch a truly funny mafia relocation show - watch Lilyhammer starring Steven Van Zandt (from the Sopranos) on Netflix.

It may not be for everyone, but for those of us who grew up watching and enjoying "The Untouchables", I feel that "The Family" is a great movie. It's put together well, with great actors, a great production, and a great location, and it includes everything from intimacy and affection to violence and killing - but, in my humble opinion, there were no excesses.

I found the story to be complex and lacking, yet I found the writing to be so much more detailed. The one thing I don't understand about this movie is the lack of explination to the story where you have Robert De Niro's character running from the mafia with his family but I don't believe at any point the chacaters tell you how he actually earned or fell into this moment where he had to actually run. They don't explain exactly what he did in the mafia, there is a mention of him ratting or turning on the mafia but how did he do it. This movie takes a Josh Whedon approach where the director actually keeps the movie dark and grim with the action, words, and what's going on but then all of a sudden there's a joke and you're laughing. And it's "okay" that a teenager is beating the absolute crap out of another schoolgirl because of a pencil box or has a random sex that needs a lot more build up.
Good, but not a great movie, has comedic points but lacks structure of the plot

We loved it...but it isn't for everyone I am sure....performances by DeNiro, Tommy Lee Jones and Michelle Pfieffer were great as expected but there is a lot of violence and swearing which may not appeal to some people.
