A fresh French musical from all the old cliches
LES CHANSONS D'AMOUR (LOVE SONGS) is an homage to the sexy cool films of the French New Wave, and the zingy songs of 1960s French pop. None of the ingredients is particularly new, yet throw them all together with a few new twists ( a seductive song played out via cell phones in an empty square, office hijinks on rolling desk chairs, etc.) and the result feels quite modern. Alternately goofy, tragic, melancholy and sprightly, it won't appeal to everyone. Be assured that by the end, a bit of hope and fun wins out...
