Biography

In 1948, Loren Ryder devised the magnetic sound recording system used in both cinema and television production. After creating communications technology that enabled pictures to be transported over wire, Ryder joined Paramount in 1936. In addition to his recording innovations, he also designed the VistaVision process (it's comparable to CinemaScope). Over his long career, Ryder received four Oscars and was nominated for 11 others.
