Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers Extended Edition

Being the middle movie this has never been my favorite of the trilogy, but it was amazing to see it on the big screen again - the extended features were great. I loved particularly the introduction by Peter Jackson himself telling us a few things about filming and the extension scenes. The Helmsdeep battle was the highlight of this movie, and it did not disappoint.

Better than it was

My wife jokingly commented that this LOTR film was always about walking, talking to trees, "Precious!" ... and more walking, talking to trees and "Precious!" -- and she is right, but the extended scenes here really add to the character development that was lacking in the original theatrical release. The character development of Eowyn is key, as it actually gives some value to a female character, so rare in Tolkein's writing. The music in this film is perhaps the best of the three films, too, as the Rohan theme really resonates with the visual imagery of that locale and its subplots. This film is hurt by less screen time for Sir Ian McKellan, but it also sets up the final installment wonderfully.
