I wasn't too blown away by this film. It was not so much about Lincoln himself as it was about politics and passing the 13th Amendment to the Constitution of the US. A lot of people liked it, but throughout most of the film, I was just saying "get on with it!" The personal touches with his wife and sons seemed to be an afterthought, and I never really got engaged with any of the characters. Even the war scenes were not enough to engage me. I really don't know why so many people are so knocked out about it.

I am steeped in US History, and even I learned some new things about the 13th amendment. Fabulous acting, directing and of course writing. Doris Kearns Goodwin and Steven Speilberg are an amazing team.

This 2 1/2 hours went by so fast it was hard to believe it was over. Fabulous cast, well written script, perfect costumes. This is a do not miss movie. If you are taking young people, it would be good to review some of the period history so they understand what led up to the events. I have NEVER been able to sit through a 2 hours movie without having to get up once and I was unable to leave my seat during this extraordinarily well done historical piece.

Lincoln

I really enjoyed the scenes where everyone would watch Lincoln with admiration and awe…probably because that is what I was doing also. In my opinion, Daniel Day Lewis did a terrific job portaying Lincoln.

I really wanted to like it...

I really wanted to like it: a movie about a hero of mine, with a great director and good actors; but it was slow and ponderous, and the photography was clever rather than effective. The scenes of the awfulness of war were good, but Lincoln was not quite believable as portrayed. The best actor was Tommie Lee Jones as the secretary of State, followed by Sally Fields.
