Surprised me

I went to this movie curious as to how a computer generated tiger could carry a movie into an Academy Award nomination. Well the movie blew away any notion I had about computer generated effects. It was a thoughtful, suspenseful and beautiful movie. The acting, art direction, set design and technical effects were great. A must see and ok for ages 12 and older I would say. The movie keeps you thinking long after it is over. Easily one of the best movies I've ever seen.

Not Just Pi in the Sky

My wife and I both enjoyed this film. This is the kind of film that you discuss afterwards -- not whether it was thumbs up or thumbs down -- to see what the other person came away with. I think this movie dissected the human psyche and did, indeed, expose humanity's innate desire for relationship with God. Some small children were sitting behind us during the movie. They kept asking, "What's going on?" so I am not sure children can appreciate the meaning, but they can enjoy Pi and Richard Parker and the jellyfish. It's a thought-provoking story -- or stories -- and is well worth the experience.

Life of Pi

I enjoyed this movie with my husband, and 2 sons ages 13 and 9. The 13 year old was very engaged in the movie as soon as it started. My 9 year old had a harder time with some of the scenes on the boat. The fight for life was a little more than he was prepared for but he enjoyed the movie as a whole as well. I have not read the book but I am going to be looking for it very soon. I loved his spiritual journey through the book and the ending was awesome!

A Life of Magic

Life of Pi is a visual feast. It should be an Oscar contender for cinematography. The story within a story is a bit of a disappointment as it takes away much suspense. However, there are wonderful moments that can be savored. One poignant scene made me cry; it was so incredibly touching without being maudlin. An overall gorgeous movie. I'll see it again.
