Very good film, thoughtfully done, no sex violence or explosions, no excessive use of 3d, I highly recommend this movie, and I will not give away any aspects of the plot or message, as that is what is fun about the movie itself. I will see this one again, and I almost never do that.

For those movie goers who enjoy 3D and don't mind wearing the glasses Life of Pi 3D is for you. A beautiful tale of a young man who loses everything - country, home, first love, and family. In order to survive in the open sea, the young man must resort to his darker side. The struggle of good vs evil of survival vs extinction of innocence vs experience comprises plays out thematically throughout the film. Yet, the film is not bogged down with telling its message.

Not what I was hoping for.

Maybe it's because of the hype of the advertising, or maybe because of the comparisons being made to "AVATAR", but after paying to go see "LIFE OF PI" on opening weekend, I have to say I came away somewhat disappointed. When I go to see a movie, I'm going for an entertainment experience. I'm looking to be excited. I'm looking to feel a sense of wonder. I'm not looking to have the movie trying to shove a message into my brain such as "YOU WILL BELIEVE IN GOD!" I felt like I was watching a commercial for religion made by a combination of Hindus, Muslims, and Tea Party Republicans. I can't say that I enjoyed this movie as much as I had hoped that I would. The ending is rather flat and uneventful. Maybe if you've read the book it is based upon, you'd have a better understanding of what is trying to be conveyed by the movie, but I found it ridiculous and poorly put together and just really did not feel I got my money's worth, even though I used a discounted ticket.

Pondicherri Pi

I read the book months ago and loved it but imagined it to be cinematically impossible. Ang Lee brought it to life beyond my own visualizations, incorporating the despair, the resourcefulness, the magic, my love and repect for the directness of the animal world, the unpredictability of the spirit, value and the creation of a good story, and the layers of the spiritual journey. I see it as a masterpiece, written by a master and filmed by one. Magnificent!!!

Though you know the outcome of the story, this movie does a great job unfolding the stories with stunning visuals. Some interesting twists at the end. The three D is well done, adding to the story not just there to show off the technology.
