Ang Lee does it again

Life of Pi in 3D is an amazing experience. The story is engrossing, based on the novel of the same name, but the computer graphics is done so well, you think the protagonist is actually sharing a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger. I strongly recommend seeing this movie, if, for no other reason, for the visual experience. In addition, seeing the world from the point of view of an engaging Indian teenager is worth it in its own right. I thought at first that the religious themes would turn me off, but the religion is an integral part of Pi's character, and it is interesting to see the world through his eyes, even if I don't see it that way myself.

Rare, profound, intimate

Some critics have worked hard to come up with things they did not like about The Life of Pi. The story touches upon religions, but does not probe deeply and it does not come up with any conclusions. The story uses a contrived device of the old Pi telling his experience to a journalist. The story is exciting in the middle, and not remarkable anywhere else. These criticisms seem rubbish to me. It is like watching Gone With the Wind and complaining that the Tarleton Twins did not really look like brothers. The Life of Pi is so unlike any other movie, and so beautiful to look at, it does not have to apologize to anybody. It can be described so simply -- A boy at sea is trapped on a raft with a tiger. He has to figure out how to make the best of it. That is just what it is. The profundity past a certain point must come from us. There is real beauty in the world, and in the ocean. And there is death and suffering. We are bound to taste both. Think of that!

I liked the Movie overall. It had a decent and interesting Text, great scenary, nice acting and made me care about the charactors but it develooped slowly and never picked up a pace that I liked. It is definetly worth seeing but don't be in a hurry...

Of course it could never be as good as the book or the movie would be 10 hours long instead of 2 but it was excellent. The cinematography was amazing! The 3-D added a lot to the movie. The theater is kinda crummy, old, bad area of town, smelled like urine, but they were the only local theater selling advanced tickets for the first release showing. The up side: @ 4:40 the night before Thanksgiving there were only about 4 other people in the theater besides us. No kids kicking the back of my seat, no texting teens. Now you could probably pick a better theater. You must see this movie!
