I heard of the book and knew not a whole lot about it. Was I incredibly surprised. This movie is just flat out incredible. It moved me, and has still has me thinking, and even feeling the movie, afterwards. Many have posted good summaries here and I'll just say that you have to see this film to really experience it. I'm surprised it is not doing better at the box office - it deserves any movie-goers attention to be seen on the big screen.

I loved it! Absolutely exhilarating cinematography and effects. My husband usually shies away from special effects movies, but now he sees the light and is looking forward to seeing other movies in animation and special effects. I never would have believed it! Two five star votes from mature adults.

Having not read the book previously I had no idea about the story except what I had seen on the trailers at the theater. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie but was concerned about the younger members of the audience sitting around me. They were squirming and not involved. I would not suggest it to anyone with children under 10. Some of the scenes are too graphic for that age group and some of the movie is not intriguing enough for that younger children. It is a very long movie, especially if you watch the credits all the way through. Wow, that was a great deal of people who worked on the movie.

My title pretty much says it all. If you are a fan of the book, you will probably feel (as I did) that there are notable disappointments in terms of storyline and characters. But, you will probably also realize (as i did) that the omissions are due to time restrictions. I was disappointed because I was looking forward to seeing how the 2 Mr. Kumars would be handled. The answer is: they are omitted and their characteristics are morphed into Pi's parents. I was most annoyed by the insertion of a love interest for Pi in Pondicherry and the omission of his 3 spiritual gurus. I was also curious about how the film would handle the meeting with the blind Frenchman; the film omits that too. Having said all of that, the characterization and plot are MOSTLY true to the original and what the film lacks in depth/profundity, it makes up for (I suppose) with visually-delightful aesthetics. The casting is spot on; the actors do well with it. It isn't terrible, which is what I had feared it would be.
