Astonishingly good!

My wife and I went to see Life of Pi the day it was released in theaters. We went in with cautious anticipation after seeing the trailer and hearing a very positive review. I can say our expectations were fairly high and hopeful. Although it started off a bit slow, it made up for it in spades at the story unfolded and we were treated to such visual splendor and incredible acting. But, in the end, it was the story that made me say as the ending credits scrolled upward on the screen, "That was one of the best movies I think I've ever seen". A day later, I still feel that way. I want to go see it again. Maybe they'll have an IMAX 3D showing some day. At any rate, don't wait to see it on DVD. See it in 3D on the largest screen you can find.

Life of Pi is good, but over-rated

I thought Life of Pi was very good. However, I really didn't like the ending. It kind of left me feeling as if I was left high and dry, without knowing whether the whole thing was just a figment of Pi's imagination or whether it really happened. I needed closure and I didn't get it.

Life of Pi's original storyline and stunning imagery really puts you into the movie itself! Ang Lee has did it again...what a beautiful film. It keep you thinking and questioning long after the movie is over. Highly recommended!!

Life isn't so easy as Pi(e)

The film in general is amazing, great cinematography. The 3-D animation added a great deal to this movie, made it feel like you're actually in the middle of the sea with these two character (Pi) and his "trust-me-trust-me-not" beautiful orange tabby kitty kat. A family movie night at the most. This movie teaches us (and the young ones) to have perseverance in life. Nicely done.

Calibrate Your Expectations!

Overall: I rank this movie #2 behind his previous "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon". It is not as well balanced as the latter. 3D: Helps to maximize the visual impact & poetic feel -- just outstanding! Part 1 (before ship wreck): Storyline is most intrigue, with introduction of Pi's personality & believes. Part 2 (after ship wreck): Unfortunately, the visual has taken over the storyline. It gets boring after a while. My companion had yawned more than a few times. Ang Lee had forgotten to keep up with developing or exemplifying Pi's character from Part 1. Part 3 (after rescue): The flip-flop ending that touches some philosophical points would have been more palatable if Pi's character & believes are more fully developed before this part. Movie's take home message: none too clearly or ambiguous at best. Is it about relation between nature & human? Or about survival of human & animal? Or about unbelievable vs. believable?
