Very Powerful

This is an amazing story of a boy in his search to find God and his incredible will to survive. This film is so well done you don't just see it, you feel it - almost become one with it. We laughed, we cried - the acting and cinematography was so well done, you fell very emotion of Pi just looking in his eyes. Every emotion he had on his journey you feel right along with him. It is a must see for everyone; believer or not there are several powerful messages.

Not what I expected

I did not read any info on movie, just went by the commercial for it on TV. It was not wha I thought it was going to be but, pleasantly suprised.
It is full of meaning and wonder. It challenges mankind to think deeper into themselves.

Amazing x 3.14159!

Stunning is the best way to describe the art direction of Life of Pi. Wonderfully creative and ridiculously beautiful, Life of Pi is a must see movie. Ang Lee is a master of storytelling and capturing the imagination.

There is an amazing amount of detail. Ang Lee excels in encapsulating reality into the movements of the animals, the affects of the saltwater and sun on Pi's skin, and the mental anguish of someone trapped at sea for over 200 days. This film has the best use of CGI I've ever seen.

For those with children, there are definitely scary and sad moments.

I have not read the book, but after seeing this movie I definitely will.

True to the book

If ever a director captured my imagination as I read a book, it is Ang Lee and Life of Pi. From the voices/dialects to the emotions of angst and despair to the developing co-dependent relationship with a tiger, he captured on screen what my imagination created when I read the book. And he did justice to the literary genius of the story line itself! I would see this again in the theater, it's that good!

The 3-D visuals were the best part of this movie. The movie started out slow and picked up further into it. Overall, it was a good movie, not awesome but good.

Incredible movie! How fresh it was to see a movie like this with no cursing, sexual innuendoes, and extreme violence. All parents, and schools make this required watching.

Amazing story and visual effects

I absolutely love this book and was really excited to see the movie. That said, if you dont know the story this movie may come across as a bit of a downer. Parents, dont bring your young children to this movie. While it looks cute to see a tiger on a boat, its not a nice tiger. You may end up dragging your children out of the movie theatre because the movie got a little too real or b. your children cant keep up with the story so they lose focus and start running around the movie theatre (yes this happened). Watch the movie in 3-D--its awesome and you wont regret it.

Beautiful and Moving Experience

Having read 'Pi' ten years ago, I wondered how the book could ever be filmed. Ang Lee has surpassed all my expectations. The film is visually stunning--the most gorgeous and seamless use of CGI ever. The performance by the young lead actor is pitch perfect. Lee and his screen writer have taken a complex piece about philosophy, religion, relationships, self-knowledge and trust and made it exciting and accessible. Bravo.

Brings the book to life with stunning visiuals

One of my favorite stories brought to life. Worth paying extra for the 3D experience. Warning- not for little kids, there were many with very little children who obviously did not read the book. Some of whom left early. The movie added to the story, usually the translation fails but it was wonderful and deep with meaning. Go see it!

A Slice of Pi I Could Have Done Without

First off, anyone planning on seeing this, I want you to know up front that this is a very religious movie, speaking/preaching religion throughout most of this movie ... and I dont have anything against religion, but it wasnt my intention to spend money on religious preachings. The story itself was a really good story about a boy stranded in the ocean on a life boat with a tiger, after the ship he is on sinks. The acting was above par, but nothing noteworthy really. I seen this in 3D, and the filming was really good in 3D, and the visuals throughout were amazing, but at the same time, some of the more colorful visuals, as good as they were, felt out of place in this movie to me, almost like throwing Tinkerbell fantasy magic into the mix of a more believable story .. it just didnt go for me in that respect. Because of the religious preachings, and its awkward direction for this movie to go in, I'd give this 2 out of 4 stars myself, enjoy :)
BTW This isnt really a kids movie either

Life isn't so easy as Pi(e)

The film in general is amazing, great cinematography. The 3-D animation added a great deal to this movie, made it feel like you're actually in the middle of the sea with these two character (Pi) and his "trust-me-trust-me-not" beautiful orange tabby kitty kat.

A family movie night at the most. This movie teaches us (and the young ones) to have perseverance in life.

life of Pi is extraordinary.

Could become an all time favorite. This movie is a visually stunning, beautifully told story that people of all ages can enjoy. Simply the best movie experience I've had in quite a while.

Great movie!

Of course it could never be as good as the book or the movie would be 10 hours long instead of 2 but it was excellent. The cinematography was amazing! The 3-D added a lot to the movie. The theater is kinda crummy, old, bad area of town, smelled like urine, but they were the only local theater selling advanced tickets for the first release showing. The up side: @ 4:40 the night before Thanksgiving there were only about 4 other people in the theater besides us. No kids kicking the back of my seat, no texting teens. Now you could probably pick a better theater. You must see this movie!

Life of Pi - Visually Spectacular and Spiritually Moving

Life of Pi employs visual spectacle to convey Pi's emotional (and sometimes delusional) voyage as castaway in a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger. But this film is much more than visual spectacle. It is spiritually moving. Philosophers in the last two centuries have struggled with how to reconcile humanity's deeply held religious beliefs with the modern sciences, including evolution. I have always believed that the perfect omniscience/omnipotence of God (or Vishnu or Allah) are better exemplified by His designing the "system" (of natural laws) by which life is created and existence progresses, than simply by speaking the world and its creatures into existence. But one question has always plagued adherents to this idea: Why would God create this (natural and scientific) system but tell humans fantastical stories of creation? Life of Pi answers: Because the fantastical story is better than the real, gritty and tragic one.
