    LETTERS FROM IWO JIMA

    by lugubriousthespian

Clint Eastwood may have hit his zenith with this amazingly detailed and compelling examination of the insanity of war as this movie focuses on the infamous WWII battle from a Japanese vantage point. The marvelous Ken Watanabe plays a compassionate general who realizing their mission is futile at this late satge of the war helps his men deal with the inevitable by standing up against the American forces for as long as they can and do it with honor. Many mini subplots are brought into the fray as we see the backsotries of a few of the men; including a young disillusined baked, an Olympic horse champion and even the general himself. Poingnant, compelling and starkly photographed this movie make a perfect companion piece to Eastwood's FLAG OF OUR FATHERS which also took a detatched, non-judgemental view of the brutalities comitted and lives senselessly lost - on ALL sides! Loving produced by Steven Spielberg. A MUST for war buffs and lovers of great film making!!

    Very very Moving

The other side of the battle in Iwo Jima. The acting is top notch, every actor and actres play their parts theo their fullest. The action sequences are just jaw dropping amazing. In my opinion, MUCH better than Flags of our Fathers. Even the subtitiles didn't bother me. Right from the start, you are sucked into the tale of what the Japanese did on their side of the field.

    GREAT FILM!

    by cjtolmie

I loved this movie. The acting, the script the whole thing begining to end was terrifice. My only complaint was the white sub-titles, sometimes they were hard to read against the background.

    Letters From Iwo Jima

    by Moviedude

Clint Eastwood's second war masterpiece, after Flags of Our Fathers,is a powerful, masterful account of the war told ferom the japanese side, and in their language.I think it is Clint's boldest film yet, since he had the bravery to actually tell it in their language. This is one,if not the best war movie, ever. The acting is superb, the one I thought was the little baker boy.Look for him in the future,I think he is going to be a future big movie star, who will win Oscars,he sure turned in an Oscar-worthy performance in here. It's definiely a must-see.
