Overcame my skepticism, and won my heart.

I am a big fan of Les Misérables. I have been a fan of the theatrical production for 27 years. I have seen it in New York, Washington and Atlanta. I was worried that a movie would ruin my memory of the show, somehow change the way I have experienced the story over the years in a negative way. Such is not the case. Yes, I was disappointed that some songs were cut, and some meaning lost ... and not overly impressed with the one added song, "Suddenly." However, I found myself immensely moved by this production, fulfilled in the telling of the story, and felt it honored the stageplay. Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway were outstanding, as were most of the cast. I thought Russell Crowe seemed uncomfortable singing, and that was a distraction. My love of this musical continues, affirmed by this new production. Bring a hankie.

sweeping music, thought provoking theological and political themes, fine acting, touching story,... I am so fantastically impressed that the play and this film accomplished so much with 3 hours.

Les Miserables

Incredible adaptation of the stage production, yet not at all the stage production. Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman are both amazing. Russell Crowe was very disappointing as Javert. The major difference between this and a staged production is that this is a very "raw" production. Rather than "beautiful" singing, these performances are ... as I said, "raw." Hathaway's "I dreamed a dream," is such a visceral and in your face reflection of hopelessness, that if you aren't brought to tears, you have no soul! The close up filming of the actor's faces as they sing draws you in to their pain, love, resignation and triumph. YOU MUST SEE THIS MOVIE!

Les Miserables captivates you as soon as it begins! I must have cried 6 times! Hugh Jackman and Anne Hatheway were absolutely amazing! The rest of the cast was brilliant as well! Highly recommend seeing it...especially if you are a Les Miserables fan! You will walk away singing :)

Coming from a Broadway musical background all I can say is BRAVO! This was a mesmerizing experience with phenomenal performances to encapsulate an experience beyond Broadway.
