Last time I cried this much was at "The Champ". Captured the essence of the book and the characters. Astounding feat. I was locked on the screen every moment. I loved the casting top to bottom.

Best show, not just a movie I've seen in years. We saw it at the iMAX, and it totally draws you in. The music was outstanding, and the acting and cinematography were great.

My 1st and 5th time seeing this movie was in IMAX - it IS the ultimate experience. I've seen the stage performance 18 times and I am extremely pleased with the movie. Every time I am shattered to tears. Every time I am swept away with the music, the story, the close ups and magnificent glory of this story! Every performance (yes, even Russell) is great. Can't wait to own it on DVD! LES MIZ #1!!!!!

If you love Les Mis on stage (and, as long as you're not a stage snob), you will love this movie. It was amazing!!! I want to go again and again before it leaves theaters. I saw Les Mis on stage in London, so nothing quite measures up to that. But, this film was done incredibly well. Story was easy to follow, and all important parts left in. (Not like previous film versions.) I agree with other reviewers who have said that Russell Crowe probably wasn't the best choice for Javert; not as a singer, anyway. Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway were at their best! Could have done without Sacha Baron Cohen. Not a fan. As long as you don't expect to go in and see the stage performance on screen, you will be glad you saw this film. I can not wait to see how many Oscars this one wins! :)

I am a big fan of Les Misérables. I have been a fan of the theatrical production for 27 years. I have seen it in New York, Washington and Atlanta.
I was worried that a movie would ruin my memory of the show, somehow change the way I have experienced the story over the years in a negative way.
Such is not the case.
Yes, I was disappointed that some songs were cut, and some meaning lost ... and not overly impressed with the one added song, "Suddenly."
However, I found myself immensely moved by this production, fulfilled in the telling of the story, and felt it honored the stageplay. Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway were outstanding, as were most of the cast. I thought Russell Crowe seemed uncomfortable singing, and that was a distraction.
My love of this musical continues, affirmed by this new production.
Bring a hankie.
