Your eyes will be in awe; your mind, not so much
This film, the first animated CGI effort by Zac Snyder, is sure to keep you entertained through to the end, even if you find the story lacking--which it is. With the benefit of a better script, and another 30 or 60 minutes of additional footage, this could have been an epic for the ages, unfortunately it feels very rushed at times, with underdeveloped characters and one very poor song choice that really pulled me out of the film. DEFINITELY spring for the IMAX 3D on this one... I've seen dozens of IMAX showings in the last 3 years alone, and none have executed it this perfectly. Legend of the Guardians is just pure beauty at this resolution and the 3D effects, as with a lot of animated films, is used to great effect. I would rank How to Train your Dragon (both in story and use of 3D) slightly above this one, but it is a MUST SEE. I would not bring any child under 7 though, there are some echos of The Secret of NIMH here that may make the smaller kids frightened.
