I really wanted to like this movie... it is left wing propaganda. Sadly judging from the previews shown beforehand; there is a lot more on the way. Must be gearing up for mid-terms. Wake up America!! How can a predominately racist country elect a black man twice. The divisive nature of this administration is creating racism.

Great movie story, but very polititally motivated which with my being an independent, I was very unhappy and disappointed in the intent to further divide our country.

In all honesty, I could not view this movie since Ms. Jane Fonda, otherwise known as "Hanoi Jane" portrays Nancy Reagan. The fact is Jane Fonda absolutely ruins this film for our military veterans. The way Ms. Fonda purposely behaved during the Vietnam War is deplorable. She went and aided the enemy who never mind was treating our military atriciously. Think of Hanoi Hilton and all the suffering our military had to endure.

This is an excellent movie. Not as much about the Presidents as I had imagine, but a meaningful story about a man, a family, and race in America in the mid-20th century. All the major actors, but particularly Forest Whittaker, should be up for an Academy award. Take the time to go see it.

I'm a white, 20-something girl (race shouldn't matter, but yes it still does) and cannot remember the last time I was so moved by a movie.
The entire theater (teens to grandparents, white to black, Repubs to Dems) was clapping wildly when the credits rolled.
There is something for EVERYONE in this movie (Except your 5 year old. Leave them at home.): Raunchy humor for the Judd Apatow movie goers, Forest Gumpian road trip from a 1920s cotton plantation to the Obama election for the history buffs, Eisenhower/JFK/LBJ/Nixon/LBJ for the politicos, and Oprah for everyone.
Note: THERE IS NO OPRAH SEX SCENE. (If you were worried/looking forward to it.) But you will see her get sexy, slap several people, battle alcoholism, and disco dance in front on the TV in a onesie. She was fantastic!
You'll Love "The Butler" If You Thought: "42" was too cheesy. "Lincoln" was too boring or too whitewashed. "Django" was too violent. Oprah or Lenny Kravitz couldn't act.
