As factual as Forrest Gump

"The following movie is FICTION and so loosely based on a true story that we invite the audience to see if they can spot the hidden facts." At least this is what the movie's warning should have said. Why, because the movie is a conjured up piece of interesting fiction that succeeds in showing how a man, tormented by his past and present, struggled through a career in the "white man's world" of the White House. Here are some of the glaring falsehoods: 1) The lead character's mother was NOT raped. 2) His father was NOT murdered. 3) He did NOT have an older son that became a troubled activist. 4) His REAL life only son was NOT killed in Vietnam but is alive and well today. 5) His wife was NOT an alcoholic, adulterer. 6) He was very fond of the Reagans and did not leave in protest. The list goes on but you get the idea. The result is a politically motivated director leading the audience on a well acted journey of misinformation.

More Fiction than Fact...Still Amazing

PSA: Bring a tissue! The Butler is enthralling. Lee Daniel brings this story to life with an exceptional touch. The visuals, acting, and screenwriting are all amazing. After all of these years, Oprah shows that she can still hold her own on the big screen. I have to say that she stole the show. So as I don't ruin the movie for anyone, I encourage everyone that watches the movie to do a little research after. The Butler takes a LOT of liberties with the true story of Eugene Allen. It's about time for an Oscar worthy movie to rear its head this year. Fact or fiction, Lee Daniels' The Butler is a must go for anyone looking for a good story that shows how far our country has come. Oh yeah, about that might need more than one... There's nothing during or after the credits. If you like my reviews, add me as a fan. I'll add you back!

Political Statement

I enjoyed most of the movie. Then they did a hatchet job on Ronald Reagan. I researched the topic and found out this movie was created by Liberals who have an agenda. I was so disappointed that their interpretation of history is just plain wrong. Now I can't believe the rest of the story. So very disappointing. Why can't they just tell a story without bringing their politics into it?

Leaves a meaningful impression

Took mom to see #LeeDanielsTheButler today. This film is touching and as predicted, I cried and got Goosebumps throughout it. We sat next to another mother and daughter duo at our ForknScreen lunch date. They were a bit older than us, and of a different race but the daughter and I both cried like babies. We were strangers at one o'clock but by the end of the film, we were like family or old friends when we hugged before parting ways. I don't know why, it just felt right. That's what this film does for the viewer. It provides a visual to what you may have learned in your history books (especially if you read A Peoples American History) and brings people closer together...if you're open to it.
