I've been wanting to see a Met opera for sometime and this did not disappoint. I thought the modern staging would be off putting but I really enjoyed it.

This was the first time my wife and I had attended a Met Opera feature, and we were both very impressed with the performance. If you like good music, a good theater performance, or both, we highly recommend it.

GOOD PERFORMANCE, BAD SOUND

The opera was wonderful. The new staging allowed the viewer to really concentrate on the music. HOWEVER, THE SOUND WAS VERY POOR. THE SPEAKERS WERE ONLY IN THE FRONT OF THE THEATER AND THE FIDELITY AND QUALITY OF THE AUDIO WAS REALLY POOR. I've seen opera at this theater before but the performance was moved to a smaller theater which did not have surround sound.

La Traviata

I've seen this opera with a traditional setting. This setting was very imaginative and edgy. I liked the change, but I'm also glad I saw the other. The singers were wonderful. I felt that the two leads had trouble acting at times. But, overall, it was a good experience.

creative staging, great voices

Another brilliant Met production! The only complaint I have is NOT with the Met but with the opera itself. I know. It's a classic. I just don't like the choppy plot. Characters do things for no apparent reason. And her big scene at the end: That part got tedious. The staging is marvelous. The set becomes part of the "play," and I like that. The father's makeup needed a bit of aging. The gray wig was not enough. Soaring vocals!
