Great learning tool for young musicians or those in audience that need flexibility (very young or old)

I am a firm believer in supporting our local musicians- and I do. I have also found considerable benefit in taking my daughter to the LA Live concerts. 1st, watching the interaction between the conductor and the orchestra is invaluable- it can't be seen when in the audiance because the conductor's back is to the audience. The camera angles and close ups show numerous musical techniques that are not easily visible without close up camera abilities. I loved seeing the preconcert interviews with the performers/Dudamel and hearing their interpretations of the music that they would be playing. The camera angles are able to showcase the very "organic" nature of the orchestra; How everyone works and moves together. That is sometimes very hard to see when seated in the audience since the musicians in the middle and back are hard to see. Another good reason to go to the theater is the flexibility of movement, bathroom breaks, & eating that you don't have during a live performance.

Dudamel conducts Mendelssohn

This was the third LAPHIL Live concert that my friend and I have attended and while we enjoyed the music as much as before, we both missed having a "Presenter" or host as ws the case earlier. When Kate Burton or John Lithgow were hosting the whole event seemed to be more professional and the concert just had better production values. Hopefully the next concert will return to this format as it was a definite negative change.

A very enjoyable afternoon. Maestro Dudamel is inspiring and passionate about music! The pre-performance commentary and visits with the featured musician was a valued component of the afternoon. I look forward to more events in the future.
