In both of the episodes of this film, based on Slovakian legends, a woman named Kristka struggles to find love. In "Grey Eyes," the first episode, a womanizing robber catches Kristka's eye. The thief is a bit of a Robin Hood, preying on the rich and generous with the poor. While she helps him escape the police of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, she loses her heart to him, only to discover that he has eyes for another. In "The Infected Heart," the second Kristka loves her irresponsible and thuggish husband with an unparalleled purity. He, in turn, abuses her incessantly, especially when she becomes pregnant.
