This lighthearted Russian operetta tells the story of a wicked prince and two young lovers. Batmanova (Tamara Semina), once a serf, sets Paris aflame with her singing and now returns to the court of the Prince (Sergue Filippov) in 19th-century Russia. The Prince wants Batmanova for himself, but she loves a young nobleman who is technically still a serf because his papers have been lost. With much plotting amid comic and musical interludes, the story gets a happy ending while still making points about social classes. ~ Lucinda Ramsey, Rovi
