It is not merely a thriller but a shocker. It will separate hard-core Jet Li followers from the fair-weather fans. Read full review

This is all grimy, guy on guy fun, right down to the fevered, bad English dialogue. Read full review

    Chicago Sun-Times | Roger Ebert

I like the movie on a simple physical level. There is no deeper meaning and no higher skill involved; just professional action, well-staged and filmed with a certain stylistic elegance. Read full review

Slick, straight-ahead action-thriller that marks a small step back and two bounding leaps forward for toplined Jet Li. Read full review

The New York Times | A.O. Scott

Mr. Li will come out of Kiss of the Dragon smelling like a rose; the combat couldn't be better. But next time around, he should leave the script to more capable hands. Read full review

The non-fighting parts of Kiss of the Dragon are, despite the presence of co-star Bridget Fonda, completely non-compelling. It's a proud convention in films like this for fans to mark time during exposition, waiting patiently for the action to start up again, and Kiss is very much in that tradition. Read full review

Offers just about a kill a minute, but less than a thrill a minute. Read full review

Too bad the filmmakers -- and here's where the American part comes in -- decided the movie had to have some heart, too. Read full review

Mr. Li is a master not only of martial arts, but of composure; no one does nothing better. The film itself is no great shakes. Read full review

Information for Parents
Common Sense Media says not for kids Jet Li film is not for kids.
What Parents Need to Know Parents need to know that this movie is extremely violent and very graphic, with many gross, bloody deaths and behavior that's reckless to the point of insanity. Richard makes Al Capone look like a consensus-builder. Even most movie bad guys are not as out of control as Richard, who wildly shoots automatic weapons into crowds of civilians. Li made headlines the week before the film was released by recommending that parents not allow their children to see the movie, which is rated R for extreme and graphic violence, drug use, and sexual references and situations. This is good advice.
  • Families can talk about how Jessica, an American girl from North Dakota, made the foolish choices that left her a heroin-addicted prostitute and kept her away from her daughter. What other options did she have? What will happen to her after the movie ends?
What to watch for
  • violence false5 Violence: Extreme and prolonged violence, some very graphic.
  • sex false3 Sex: Character is a prostitute, sexual references and situations.
  • language false3 Language: Some strong language.
  • consumerism false0 Consumerism: Not an issue
