Food for the Soul
Julie and Julia was a delightful and heartwarming film, but I found it slightly unbalanced. The story is delightful and has a humor to put a smile on any food fanatic's face. Meryl Streep's acting is stupendous - she has captured Julia Child's essence, love for food and humanity, and thirst for success that made her a star. Amy Adams does a commendable job, but clearly has less material to work with. Her story line lacks a certain amount of spice and intrigue that gives the Julia Child story forward thrust. Also, Adams's character (Julie) is, at points, a bit unlikeable. Aside from those mild complaints, this film is enjoyable and definitely worth seeing, if not only for the acting for the beautiful Parisian scenery, the delectable food, and romantic story of love and female power in the twentieth (and twenty-first) century.
