Today Show co-anchors Katie Couric and Bryant Gumbel team up to host Journey Back to Africa. The program explores the complexities of African culture and history, including the twin injustices of slavery and colonialism, and the emergence of struggles associated with modernity and self-government. Couric and Gumbel also introduce viewers to the diversity of Africa's landscape, from its arid deserts to its ultra lush rainforests, coastal plains, and snow-capped mountains. In one especially emotional segment, Gumbel makes a pilgrimage to Goree island, the last known home for the approximately 20 million Africans sold into slavery. ~ Betsy Boyd, Rovi
