    An emotional experience

    by lemdy

The opportunity to see this concert film on the big screen was amazing. The energy that JM and JM3 exuded seemed to envelop the entire theater. You could sense the trance-like state the artists were in while the music poured from within. JM has definately refined his craft and brought his talent to the next level. The blues set was particulaly emotional--I felt as though I was being dragged through the depths of his heartache...I definately left the theater a changed fan. This perfomance leaves no room for doubt about the caliber of talent this young perfomer has, and I hope that he remains true to himself...I would hate to see another young star burn out too quickly.

Amazing guitar talent of this generation

Where The Light Is showcases all 3 of John Mayer's guitar-playing skills. There is an acoustic set, a blues (Trio) set, and a full band set. Also included are a few backstage and interview clips from him. The sound and camera work is phenominal and seeing it on the big screen really captures that. Although there was only one movie showing of this, the DVD & CD can be purchased as of July 1, 2008. I would highly recommend purchasing one or both of them because you will not be disappointed.

John Mayer: Where the Light Is

A concert movie, it covers John's career with the different instruments/genre/band members, starting with acoustic, moving to the bluesy John Mayer Trio, then onto the larger rock and blues ensemble. The CD/DVD/Blue Ray version will have more songs and features.

The music was great, especially the Trio set. I have seen all the band member configurations, and some of the songs were stock performances, and some were outrageously brilliant. Guitar god indeed. There wasn't much onstage banter, so if you're hoping for a good rant, you might be disappointed, unless there is something on the commercial video.

The interview parts were boring. John is very self-aware, so he knew exactly what he wanted to say, and it was pretty much self-involved.

Bandmates were mentioned occasionally, but not emphasized, which is a shame. Dela, the long-haired base player, is no longer with John and Katie, the IT/fan coordinator, is gone also. They will both be sorely missed by the fans.
