    Geezer goes to the movies

I read the books in 1975 and have been watching movie technology evolve to the point where this movie could happen. For the first time in my life I'm going to a midnight first showing, I let you know if it was worth the wait.

Several hours later I can assure everyone that the thirty-seven year wait for movie technology to catch up with my imiganation was worth it. Everyone and everything looked like it should. Although I thought a few spots drug, they needed to in order for the story to make sense. Although JCOM is not as visually sumptous as Avatar one must realize this is an epic about two races split into tribes/cities competing for dwindling resopurces.

I believe ERB would buy a second ticket and watch it again tomorrow with me. People become critics because they can't create so they simply complain; which take no talent at all.

    Surprised and satisfied

If you have read the books, you will be very satisfied the way they have played the characters straight up.....no parody. This is a grand adventure that wins you over bit by bit. The 3D makes this even more fun. Many movies use 3D today and suck, but this movie soars with it. See it in 3D for sure! This time the critic are wrong. This movie is way fun.

    John Carter enjoyable for all

    by Collie1

So for its the first movies I found entertaining and fun. Few changes from the book but Edgar never saw the future of 3D movies what a director could do, poor Tarzan might be next, but I do hope they make another John Carter.

    Very Barsoomian

As a fan of the series, I was very happy with the way this film turned out. The tone of the movie mostly felt very in tune with the books. There were a lot of changes form the books, but almost all of them seemed to keep Edgar Rice Burroughs vision intact (I have one exception, but don't want to spoil it). The sets and cinematography felt very Barsoomian to me. I did feel like it could have been longer, I would have liked to see more of all of the characters. I was pleased with all of the acting, especially with Kantos Khan and Tars Tarkas. There was more humor than I expected, but it was only in a good way, and did not cheapen the action. The action scenes could have been extended some and more detail given, but I suppose that as a pg-13 Disney movie, they did not want to go there.

I'd seen some review out there that only gave it two stars (?!), and yet movies like Hugo got rave reviews (?!). I think they've got that backwards. This movie was a great family experience. Disney brings it home, the characters were fantasic, the aliens awesome, the princess beautiful, the overall story line very fun. Just plain fun.

Best 3D IMAX movie I've seen (didn't see Avatar in 3D), but probably not worth seeing in 2D

    by

It has some awesome parts, but I do not think it is worth watching in 2D except for 15ish minutes or so. Funniest parts are early on with Breaking Bad dude. A dozen or so 90 second long sequences throughout are phantabulous. Not for kids. Dialogue is too complex in parts - kinda like most recent Star Wars (lame).

Movie was actually pretty good, not sure how it compared to the books but i enjoyed it. i felt the 3d was not necessary since nothing jumped out at me. The movie itself had plenty of action and a nice amount of humor to offset it, perfect for the family but a good movie all around.

    i give it a 9 out of 10

    Overall Good Story, Great Action

Overall Good Story, Great Action.... The romance was totally hokey, and there were a few slow parts, but all was necessary for the story. Thumbs up!

Very good, quite original, great family movie.

I was worried because of the reviews and corny promos. However, we went to see it in 3D last night and absolutely loved it. It was much better than avatar, as far as story goes. Very entertaining and would recommend for anyone who loves a great science fiction movie. Well worth your money and a good movie to take your older kids to see.

The movie was very different. We loved it.,we certainly were greatly entertained the whole time. Acting was SUPER. It kept us on the edge of our seats.
3D a waste of money. Not necessary

    OH MY, amazon

    by sanvern

after seeing the moving I decided to read about the author, Edgar Rice Burroughs. He was from 1875 to 1950, way ahead of his time to write these stories; wrote the Tarzan stories. There are 11 Barsoom's (Mars) story's and this one is the first. Please bring on the rest!

I loved the si-fi effects. It was packed full of adventures and excitement. Overall very entertaining which is why I still like to go to the movies and see them on the big screen.

    John Carter 3D

Fantastic family movie, although probably parents should stick to the PG-13 guideline, only because of the intense action. The 3D effects were great, the story engaging. A must see!
