Innovative Czechoslovakian animator Jiri Trnka was known as the master of traditional Czech puppetry and his animated puppet films earned him international acclaim. Following graduation from the School of Arts and Crafts in Prague, Trnka founded a puppet theater in 1936. When WWII erupted, he temporarily disbanded the theater and earned his living as a theatrical set designer and illustrator of children's books. In 1945, Trnka and others founded an animation division at the Prague film studio -- they called it "Trick Brothers." In addition to his puppet films, Trnka also designed animated cartoons. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi
