Jeff Who Lives at Home Review

When I saw the trailer I couldn't tell if it was going to be one of those really bizarre movies or if it would be be good. To my surprise, both. Jason Segal and Ed Helms do a great job together in this film. Their dialogue seems authentic and nothing was overacted. Perfect. I also enjoyed how thought provoking this movie is, it really makes you think about your life and whether or not things happen for a reason or just coincident. It's just one of those feel good movies with an uplifting message, good acting, good directing, a good screenplay, and good editing. All around I would give this movie a 8/10 and definitely recommend checking it out. Hope this helps XD

Jeff who lives at home.

A thoughtful movie told on two levels. One level is for the typical person who knows nothing about mental illness and laughs at the unusual thoughts and actions of Jeff. The other level is for those who know and recognize the struggles of these individuals who suffer the mockery of other people including ( maybe , especially) family members; who are often the victims of mean or outright dangerous situations; who are lonely and unhappy, but seem powerless to communicate their plight or escape from it. The happy ending is a rare, but poignant sight.

Wait to Netflix it

A nice little dysfunctional family story with a cute premise and some funny scenes. Each character is working on problems they need to get past in order to move on to a happier place. Very enjoyable, but if you're careful about your entertainment dollar, this isn't worth shelling out $13.50 because the big screen experience isn't necessary and this film will be just as good on a TV screen down the road.

Unfunny

Maybe I was expecting too much with this cast. I was hoping for a comedy, it was not funny at all. That said it was an OK drama. A slacker, his brother and mother are disfunctional until a crisis brings them together. Not for kids.

Lives At Home But Never There

I asked myself why the call it jeff who lives at home when the whole movie is about jeff being outside and around town high on weed following signs and talking to people on deep thoughts and then I came to the conclusion that it was all about him making back home. I give it a six and half on a scale of ten due to a low budget so-so comedy with a good story and bit of love, not to mention there were times when i was questioning and/or realizing my own existance in the world is what gave me that cinimatic climax feeling throughout the movie. Go see it i bet you will like it.

Caught this on the matinee tip at Bala and it wasn't half bad! A off beat comedy about a stoner name Jeff(Jason Segel) who lives his mother's basement and looks for signs from the universe to determine his path. Unexpected events and some down right hilarious moments leads him to cross paths with his estranged brother and then the real fun starts! Some parts will have you dying while others will have you shaking your head at these two. Nothing blockbuster or oscar worthy but a good time none the less! C+

im probably just prejudiced because of jason segel..

I really really loved this movie. Might have something to do with being a "Jeff" myself, but i found the movie to be everything a movie should be. Happy, sad, emotional, funny--REAL. Jason Segel of course can do no wrong in my eyes but as Jeff he is so likable and charming. His brother and mom--NOT SO MUCH!! Just a scene or two of *uncomfortable* awkwardness, but overall, pretty family friendly. Well ok there's more than a few f-bombs. But its nearly always done jokingly. Loved it, wish it was playing closer to where i live, I'd go see a few more times. Recommended for the other "jeffs" of the world!

A Unique Screenplay, Not Formulaic, Surprising And Entertaining...

This is a very good example of a typical limited release movie. It won't appeal to the broader audience because it wasn't made for them. This film, like others in its genre, is made to entertain a select group rather than stimulate the masses. The character parts do ramble a bit in this play but soon after the start the viewer begins to empathize and in the end, it's a most worthy effort. While no blockbuster or over-the-top comedy, this is a solid film well worth its ticket price. If you're looking for something different and are willing to relax and be entertained, this is your movie. See it. You won't be disappointed.

A couple parts were funny. I love Jason Segel and am willing to watch everything he's in, and he does a great performance, but a little too cosmic for me. Too far-fetched of a story line.

Great small movie

This film is one of those rare gems that is about people and relationships rather than about special effects or gratuitous sex and violence. For that reason it'll never be a huge box office hit, but it has more going for it than many of the crappy blockbusters out there like Hunger Games and John Carter which were utter crap. The star of this film, unlike most Hollywood films, is the writing and the acting.

Save your money.

I really wanted to like this film. I really wanted to care about these characters but they're too surreal and so far removed from any normalcy that they cannot even function inside of this small little universe they are supposed to inhabit. If you want to see this movie, wait until its on Netflix. The characters and shaky camera work grate on you and the end pay-off is too contrived to be worth the price of admission.

Pleasantly Surprised!

I did not know what to expect of this movie but I sure as heck didn't expect to be in tears at the end of it, but I was. The one part that freaked me out and all together made me smile was the Lake Pontchartrain scene. I LITERALLY spent 4 hrs last week googling this lake, amazed by it's length over water. I looked up pictures & stats and even took a Google Map ride on it and then BAM here it is in a movie. I have never heard of this lake nor seen it in any film and then here it is. Talk about creepy, talk about signs eh. HA unbelievable. The film was good from start to finish. I love Jason Segal anyhow and this confirmed for me why. He is versatile as is Ed Helms who surprised me with this one, the bond or lack of w/ he & Jeff, wow. Susan Sarandon's part & with the co-worker, all so. . .well reminiscent. What a great way to tell a story! The end was great, I loved it. Definitely one to check out, just because.
