Versatile Jay Sommers got his start writing scripts for Milton Berle's radio show in 1940. During his long career in radio, he wrote for a number of famed performers including Eddie Cantor and Red Skelton as well as for comedy series such as "Lum and Abner." In the '50s and '60s, Sommers wrote for a variety of television series including Ozzie and Harriet, Petticoat Junction (he also produced the series in its latter stages), and Green Acres, a series he created and produced.
