I took my 9 year old daughter to see this movie, thinking I would be using her as my pass to see a kids movie that I really wanted to see. Boy was I wrong. She was utterly bored and sleeping before the ending credits rolled. This is NOT a kids movie at all. There isn't a lot of gory stuff, however there is more dialog than a kid wants to hear. I also expected a certain level of "cornballness" to the movie, which I was pleasantly surprised to not have found.

I went to the movie wanting to know their take on the fairy tale thinking it would be stupid. I was as wrong as could be. Jack makes an excellent hero and has a good story and heart. I like how they portrayed the princess. She wasn't just the damsel in distress or the hero. She is a strong person who helps along in the fight and follows jack. It is refreshing to see that. Ewan McGregor delivers the humor at the right moment with the best one liners.
The story is good and so is the CGI. The battle scenes were awesome with great humor. A peek at the humor is this line. I doesn't give away anything because it involves a giant and it takes a lot to kill one if they can be killed. A giant says "I can taste victory" and gets two arrows in his tongue.
Great movie. You have to get it on DVD or Blu Ray.

This is a movie that charged for 3D and the only experience was the beans being thrown down around you. It was a drag of a movie and a miser' able (context of another movie) experience and one I hope never to repeat. Oh, there were 7 people in a theatre set for 260.

C'mon, who doesn't love young, poor, optimistic heroes and huge, rich, gross giants (and evildoing politicians)? We've seen cartoons of fairy tales, bad renderings from decades past. This one has GIANTS, and we actually go to their world (they're pretty gross, by the way ... your young boys and girls will love the booger eater as much as you will. Ew.), hear their thundering footsteps, growling language. You can almost smell them. The effects are right for the story: There are a lot of moments that make your heart beat faster, starting with the beanstalk just ripping itself into the sky. Adults pay attention because there is a lot of wry humor that actually brings a laugh. Wonderfully cast, beautifully shot/costumed/set designed, and crisply edited. I saw this last night in a large theater and am looking forward to seeing it on the big screen again before owning the DVD. (GIANTS!!). Oh, and I'm over 50. Go. See. It. (I saw in 2D and was thrilled.)

We took our boys ages 15 & 12 to see this for their first IMAX 3D experience. They really enjoyed it. The graphics were great, story line was pretty good, and just an overall good family movie with older children. Some scenes may not be suitable for younger children. The only thing I was disappointed in was the lack of 3D effects. Not worth paying $15.00 a piece for; your better off seeing it on the regular screen.
