Entertaining, original

Very entertaining, original - I don't ever recall Jack and the Beanstalk this way, but maybe I've been wrong all these years. No matter, this film takes the tale to unique/imaginative territory and it just worked. The story takes you on the ride, not thee effects/3D - that's what matters. Acting across the board was excellent - nothing overboard, no cheesy lines common with such theatrical depictions of tales. If anything, you're left wanting more!

I am still a kid at heart and loved the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. This movie brought the book to life in such a wonderful way. The writers did a great job weaving the story together and the cinematography in 3D included me in the great adventure! I would go see it again!

BIG FUN

I rate this a B. We all know the story so no real suprises BUT still fun to watch. I think they did and excellent job creating the giants (even though some of their actions and dialogue were hokey). The acting was OK but the real star is the production design. Great sets and felt like everything that was supposed to be giant ...was. Nothing new here but worth the time....Go and enjoy

Pure Fun

We went because the weather was lousy and we'd seen everything else we want to. But, this was a pleasant surprise. The 3D was good, not the kind that makes you sick! The special effects are above average. The acting was in keeping with the type of movie. Light and just campy enough to make it fun. And the movie had heart. Nicholas Hoult reminds me of a young Hugh Grant, which is a very good thing. Take the kids or go without them. You will not be disappointed. If you are, you've lost your sense of fun.

Visuals a big jumpy - just as good in 2D?

I enjoyed the romance, the humor, and the gorgeous scenery. Story was fun but not gripping. My sixteen-year old niece thought it was wonderful and wants to get the DVD when it comes out. I fell asleep and missed one of the best scenes where a giant picked his nose, pigs in blankets were for supper, and one of the heroes escaped being baked in a pie... I found the CG very jumpy and had a little trouble understanding the giants' gravelly voices. Also had a little trouble understanding why all the giants were men - how do they reproduce??? Ewan McGregor was eye-candy although his posh accent seemed incongruous! I think this movie would be just as enjoyable in 2D.
