I read these reviews online:
1] Ryan is a young stockbroker working for a billionaire in Moscow before joining the CIA. When the billionaire he is advising frames him for a terrorist plot and kidnaps his wife, Ryan must race against time to clear his name
2] he will have transplanted to Moscow to continue his financial advising, not for Merill Lynch (which has been absorbed by Bank of America), but for a billionaire employer. It is that billionaire employer who eventually sets Jack Ryan up to take the fall for terrorist plot designed to collapse the U.S. economy.
a] don't think these people saw the movie.
b] A couple of other reviews said it was boring.
c] one snooty reviewer implied you had to be stupid enough to like James Bond to like this movie.
I took their advice. Pine even reminds me of Jason Bourne. d] can't wait for the sequel--when Jack finds out the true force behind the crash of the world economy and perps behind 9/11...
Movie was great.

I have seen each of the Tom Clancy movies and read most of his books that featured Jack Ryan. Chris Pine is a good actor and I liked him as Captain Kirk in the new Star Trek movies.
I rate his performance as Jack Ryan in this movie below that of Alex Baldwin, Ben Affleck, and Harrison Ford. Pine was too much of a Boy Scout in this movie. There was a lot of running, yelling, and fighting during the movie. In previous movies, the character of Jack Ryan was a survivor. In this movie, he was always leading the charge.
I recommend this movie to someone who likes a lot of adventure and action in a movie. If you are expecting the typical Jack Ryan character, you might be disappointed.

This movie definitely tied itself to a story told in Hunt for Red October right at the beginning. I thought it was a nice touch. I would definitely watch this one again!

One of the best action movies I have seen in many years. Pine made a great Jack Ryan and Kevin Costner is a great actor anyway. It's hard to find a movie where you could consider his performance not very good.

For the first time in a while, we have a CIA thriller that doesn't have the main character taking on and defeating an evil power all by himself. The plot was well-written to keep the action going and the viewer engaged through multiple peaks of action. Good movie for the spy enthusiast.
