I Was Skeptical

I honestly wasn't sure what type of movie this was going to be; I was skeptical and couldn't enjoy myself. I was happy to find that there was a good plot with a mystery to be solved. I'm not into some of the violence personally, but I liked the occasional unexpected humor to ease the tension. I do think the rating is accurate. Don't bring little ones; this is more for teens and adults. One small warning, if you're upset by recent events in the news, you may want to wait to see it. The opening made me a bit emotional because of this. I have never read the book that this movie was based on; so, I can't compare the two. The movie, however, had enough twists and turns to keep me interested, and the main characters got me to cheer for them. I think the movie was well acted, and had some very visually exciting scenes(cars, fights, I don't want to give too much away). Overall, in my opinion it's pretty good. I'm going to need to see it again when I can relax and enjoy the show

Doesn't Reach the Top Shelf

Lee Child has written a series of books with the rich, layered character of Jack Reacher. Cruise and director McQuarrie bring it all tumbling down in one film. Cardboard characters, horrible writing, uber-violence and "speak slowly because the audience might be too stupid to connect the dots" acting. Despite Tiny Tom's limited acting abilities, I was really hoping that this movie would work. But it takes more than explosions and car chases to make an enjoyable film.

Highly-Entertaining! Cruise (mostly) made me overcome my doubts re: his casting as Reacher.

Very well-done, faithfully-presented adaptation of Lee Child's gripping book. Inventive, gripping, and well-made. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. For the record, on principle I still profoundly regret the casting of Tom Cruise in the lead role as Jack Reacher (solely because I'm an avid follower if the series and over a decade+ Lee Child has inextricably painted a very specific body type--massive physical stature--into the minds of readers). That said, Cruise clearly demonstrates his commanding screen presence, and taking the role by itself, I was convinced and entertained. Definitely worth seeing--in the theater. Pre-movie suggestion for Lee Child Reacher fans: Forget about the character from the books.

I love to look at Tom Cruise...but even his looks were not enough to make me sit through the whole movie. Script was sad. I love action movies...but this was a waste of time. Sorry Tom.

After the incident in Sandy Hook, we were a bit uneasy about going to see this movie but a few minutes in the story/movie, we were trying to figure out the clues.
