OK, the biggest problem I have with this movie: Tom "too short" Cruse. If you have read any of the Reacher books, which are awesome, you know the character is tall, blonde, and built. He's an ex-army cop. Tom Cruse, by contrast, is short, wimpy, and gay-ish. Whoever cast this movie failed miserably. A no-name actor would have been a far better choice for the intro to a series. I can't fathom why they would have cast him in this role, unless he bought the rights to the film, and had himself cast in it.
Bottom line, the rest of the movie doesn't matter, it just doesn't fly with Tom Cruse as the lead.

It seemed as though the movie was written for the immature. An audience that had a romantic sense of the hero as this rough, tough guy that likes women, but sees them as weaklings to be protected. The hand-to-hand fight scene near the end was completely silly & unnecessary. Why did they make the effort to establish Reacher's credibility as a top quality sniper if is was not going to be relevant later? Having said that, I admit that the movie was well made & well acted. I just wish that Tom Cruise was not such a nut-job Scientologist, since I like his movies, but I am conflicted when supporting the CofS in any way (like paying to see a Tom Cruise movie).

I dont understand any negative reviews that this movie may get. Instead of the standard 15,000 round shoot fest, this movie was smart, funny, very well acted, and just the right amount of action. I am a movie buff for sure, and most movies bore me. But my wife and I both really loved this movie. Go see it for sure.

I loved the movie. It was so different from all the other movies that are of this type. I would see more of this kind of movies that have a great ending.

Lee Child has written a series of books with the rich, layered character of Jack Reacher. Cruise and director McQuarrie bring it all tumbling down in one film.
Cardboard characters, horrible writing, uber-violence and "speak slowly because the audience might be too stupid to connect the dots" acting.
Despite Tiny Tom's limited acting abilities, I was really hoping that this movie would work. But it takes more than explosions and car chases to make an enjoyable film.
