If you haven't read the source material and aren't in love with the Mandarin or other characters, you will probably enjoy this film enough.
It's not a bad movie, just not a true to the source Iron Man film. And I'm not going to sit here and rant and rave, but they took liberties that made NO sense, and ruined an arch-enemy of one of the most loved superheroes in the Marvel universe. Just sad really. But If you don't know anything about the source material, I'm sure you will enjoy the film.

I really wanted to like this film. I really did. Shane Black is a great Director (If you haven't seen Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, go see it. It's awesome). But this film is the most unfocused Marvel movie yet, a frightening sign of things to come. The story is the weakest out of the three movies, and oftentimes doesn't really take itself as seriously as I wanted it too. Something happens 3/4ths into the movie that disappointed me greatly. I won't give it away here, but it has to do with the main villain, and is a perfect example of why the humor fails. It seemed more like a parody of an Iron Man film than it did an actual Iron Man film. For the first time, I was also tiring of Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark. His schtick is becoming monotonous, he makes decisions that are completely out of character for him, and he comes across as an a-hole, not the witty, charming playboy philanthropist of previous films. Overall, this is one of Marvel's weakest efforts.

Although I think it wasn't as good as the second Iron Man, I think that this was good in its own right. It had enough action, and kept moving through the entire movie. There weren't any slow parts except in the very beginning, and although it was a little over 2 hours, it sure didn't feel that way. It was good.

Pros: Good supporting performances. Awesome performance by Ben Kingsley. Nice to see the other armors
Cons: Disposable performance by Paltrow. Bizarre PTSD/Anxiety attack plot line with Tony Stark character. Questionable plot/script decisions at several points in the movie.
Hard to go into detail about the movie's problems without going into spoiler territory but there was a good idea here, just poorly handled. Maybe if Tony had PTSD/Anxiety attacks about his experiences in Afghanistan then Tony's problems after New York would be understandable. Instead they come from nowhere. Oh, and War Machine fans deserve to be outraged.
tl;dr Best reason to see the movie is Ben Kingsley as the Madarin. Other than some genuinely funny one-liners, this is a miss as far as Iron Man goes.

Was rather disappointed with this film. IMO, not as good as 1 & 2. Decent action but story not that great. Robert Downey has the role down pat and the attitude was not as stuck up as in the first two films. I love Pepper though. She is the best. Should have kept the original Colonel though, switch actors doesn't do the story line smooth.
