While the movie is a step up from Iron Man 2, its biggest fault lies with its primary antagonist which half way through the film is revealed to be hoax. Whatever cheap trick Marvel decided to do with the Mandarin character is completely lauded at. It's a similar approach to what was done in Batman Begins. Here's to hoping that Marvel decides to create more original Iron Man films or cancel them completely.

Do not expect a movie on par with the Avengers. Iron Man 3 in no way approaches the lofty bar set by that movie. IM3 isn't bad but didn't meet my expectations
IM3's plot combines the genetically engineered super soldiers of the "Extremis" comic arc with an arms dealer brokering war for profit while playing on the ever current events of terrorism. These scenarios are worn out on their own and don't get any better together. Tony Stark's Avengers's adventure initiated PTSD is thrown in for good measure.
IM3 showcases a linear, predictable plot against adversaries made unworthy by the movie's deviation from the comic. It also lacks attention to detail. Someone shouldn't emerge from a 3,000 degree explosion with perfectly pressed pants. The action is is well done but lacks creativity.
Robert Downey Jr's comedic timing is the true hero of this movie.
Watched in IMAX 3D. There is a scene after the (long) credits

This is everything I wanted to see in an Ironman sequel. The acting is top notch and the story is the best yet. The Mandarin, played by Ben Kingsley, is worth the price of admission alone. He is the embodiment of all of the fears in the current American consciousness -- Al Queda, China, domestic terrorist, etc. But is he real? He introduces himself to Tony Stark by blowing up his Malibu home and basically destroyng his ability to suit up. Those of you who want to see a movie that's like The Avengers full of non-stop superhero action scenes need to look elsewhere. This move has a great story, a great villian, and above all, an emphasis on teamwork to combat evil. Robert Downey Jr's character is conflicted and much darker than his previous outings as Ironman. This gives him an opportunity to use his considerable acting talents to make us laugh and keep us entertained. Nevertheless, there are a few amazing action scenes that involve an army of Ironmen that aren't to be missed.

Just to get this out of the way: I love Iron Man. I think that Robert Downey Jr. is the perfect actor to play him. The rest of the cast is top-notch as well. I have no complaints as far as performance..
However, this movie was a complete train wreck. It was cheesy, even down to the throwback "wipe" scene changes. There were huge plot holes For example: Jarvis can apparently pilot dozens of unmanned suits simultaneously as they combat the enemy, but can't lock the front door to prevent an unexpected guest from walking right in or alert anyone that there's a missile flying directly at the house?
Also, how is it possible that after years of refining the Iron Man apparatus, the newest incarnation falls apart (not kidding here) after running into a hand railing? Falls. Apart.
The dialogue was forced, some of the CG was terrible (particularly when showing the faces of individuals while wearing the suits). Such a let-down.

I think fans have become too spoiled. We expect that EVERY marvel movie will thread together and introduce upcoming possible marvel movies and/or plot points. However, we fail to realize that the movies themselves are components of specific characters and settings. The Iron Man films are showing an over zealous weapons designer taking accountability for his actions and his journey in NOT becoming a Hero but becoming a better man. Iron Man 3 shows how Tony Stark finally found a better version of himself. It completes the origin story and now gives way for other possible journeys/story archs/future marvel movie endeavors. Never compare any marvel movie to Avengers because there is no comparison. You will always be disappointed. Look at Iron Man 3 as a chapter in the story of Tony Stark. If you take that approach you will be more than satisfied with the movie. It has a good mixture of comedy and action. I enjoyed the plot. As usual Robert Downing Jr nails the role. I recommend seeing it!
