I was lucky enough to see both movies in the same night for the first time through an AMC double header special showing.
The first Insidious was not perfect but offered up plenty of chills. The 2nd Insidious is a very different movie. The scope is much larger with more excursions from the house. It ties in extremely well with the first movie.
Where the original Insidious was focused on chills, Insidious 2 focuses more on suspense and thrills. There's also a little comedy thrown in. While it's more original and story driven than the first movie, it's definitely not as scary.
Though I enjoyed the original the best, the biggest triumph of Insidious 2 is the close tie in to part 1 in a way that feels like they were written as one movie. It's a go, but a notch below part 1 and several rungs below The Conjuring.
There's nothing during or after the credits

James Wan takes us further into "the further" to show us how the spirits started to follow the Lambert family. We see that the spirits have not left them, and it is confirmed that they followed Josh Lambert (Patrick Wilson) back to the real world (from the ending of the first film). The use of saturated colors, shadows, smoke, and pure black and pure white make-up create freaky moments. James Wan uses man different forms of scare tactics: slow build-up of music, images that come from nowhere, spirits making contact, spirits from "the further" showing up in the real world, and story development of the villainous characters. The first movie was very well done, and this continuation does not disappoint.

This was absolutely edge of my seat, heart pounding, best scary movie thriller I have seen in years! Great proceeding following the first, even scarier than the first. I was extremely pleased, way better than The Conjuring in my opinion. I'm a huge horror film buff and I was just ready to stand and applaud! Kudos to the director and screen writer, and the actors played their characters well. Definitely a movie for adults 18 years of age and older. If your thinking about supporting the film, I highly recommend going to see this movie while it's in theaters!

I seen this on opening weekend with a group of friends and I was expecting this to be as scary as the first. This made me jump 1 time but that was it. Don't go into this film expecting it to be as scary as "The Conjuring". But this film is a rental not a theater going experience!

Insidious: Chapter 2 was a incredibly fascinating movie to watch! I found the first Insidious movie to be quite creative in the "scares" that it ployed, and how the story line was nothing I had ever experienced! If you enjoyed the first Insidious movie, go see the 2nd one!! The Director does a great job at tying in all of the loose ends, and adding in some more of those original and creative "scares"! If you're looking for a movie to scare you, like another Paranormal Activity, maybe you shouldn't see this movie.. It had a few good scares and jump scenes that I appreciated, but the overall movie was more interesting than scary! Overall I'd give it a 4 out of 5! But it's a MUST GO if you enjoy movies with VERY creative and original story lines!!! (:
