See what marriage can really be like!

I didn't expect such a realistic view of a long term marriage! It was really funny in some places, but was heartwarmingly close to reality. I expected more laughts and got more warmth and heart. A great movie! It contains sexual situations that are for very mature audiences!! Anyone under 40 might think it's gross, but it presents the reality of a mature sexual relationship. Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones nailed it! And Steve Carell couldn't have been more realistic as their therapist! Great movie for us Baby Boomers!

Absolutely a superb film...touching, real, heartfelt, funny and poignant. It is a "must see" for adults of any age. The writing is sharp and genuine, depicting the problems in communication and passion that nearly every couple faces sooner or later. The direction is crisp with no phony or over-the-top acting or staging. Meryl Streep is excellent as always and Tommy Lee Jones is convincing and ultimately likeable. I liked it so much that I'm going to buy it when it comes out on DVD.

A depressing mess

Very boring, depressing, and low budget. This movie makes me never want to get married. I really got grossed out when the two lead actors began making out.

Steve Carrell talent was wasted in this simply boring movie. Could have developed Steve's character so much more. Could have found out at least SOMETHING remotely interesting about the main characters. A couple of chuckles not worth the price of admission. See the last 15minutes when it comes out on DVD.

Hope Spring NOT!

First it says this movie is a comedy, even the potentially comedic parts were awful. From the director of Devil Wears Prada, maybe but definitely lost the touch. With such a dynamite cast the potential for a Great movie was there, but it fell flat on its face. If you need couples therapy and can't afford it, this will be a good enough painful process for you for a lot less money.
