Music, cast, plot.... All great! Not for those with short attention span. It takes a while to build, but the story, as a whole, is the epitome of the American western.

"High Noon" is an AFI loved snoozer.

Western films just never seem to get tired of by AFI and other organization who identify key aspects of the history of cinema. No matter how long, boring, or slow they play out, there's always someone big who says you should see them. Fred Zinneman's "High Noon" is exactly what I'm referring to. High Noon is a rather short western about Marshall Will Kane's (Oscar-winner Gary Cooper) day in the office as he fights to protect his town. A legendary outlaw is returning to his town to do God knows what, causing Kane to seek help from his town. It turns out Kane is the only one brave enough to take this crook out. This film is very easy to follow but very hard to stay awake through. Gary Cooper's almost emotional-less and dull performance should be in lullaby books for babies. He'll put you right to sleep. The plot itself is also very lame. A U.S. Marshal needs help taking out an outlaw who's coming at noon. Even I could have come up with that in my sleep. There isn't a single character who is interesting or dedicated to his or her character, which only makes the film more of a joke. Nothing else is brought to the screen besides the situation that is going to eventually going to end in a bang like almost every other western. This is a rather shallow choice of AFI for electing it into their "Top 100 Movies" list. There are plenty of other old films that have much more depth and criteria of an iconic film that list trash. This is the most predictable and perhaps the longest 80 minute film of all time. Don't be fooled by the classic gun sounds and a cheap Oscar win.
