This film of the human condition is a psychological study in the gradual decline of Maria (Chris Lomme), a divorced mother trying to cope on her own with two daughters and a father in a retirement home. Maria's life is made all the more rough around the edges when her oldest daughter leaves Belgium for North America. Maria and her younger daughter Valerie (Caroline Vlerick) make weekly visits to the grandfather (Maurice Goossens) whose astute observation of his daughter's emotional stability gives him pause. The younger daughter escapes her mother's over-protective presence for awhile, foreshadowing the inevitable as her mother declines and her grandfather tries to keep things together. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi
