    Thought Provoking and Touching

This movie does a very good job dealing with themes of death, loss, grief, the afterlife - but is really about living life. Some of those who posted negative reviews might have been expecting more action, twists & turns or mindless entertainment. But this movie makes you think as it portrays three complicated stories and many concepts in a simple way, allowing the viewer to take a journey with the characters as the stories unfold and the connections between the stories develop. We found it to be thought-provoking and touching.

better than what the critics said

    by

went to see this movie yesterday and i was expecting to be terrible for my but instead i was very involved int he story wondering were or how this characters will connect, matt damon was great, and the kid was amazing my girlfriend was trying to to cry,i will say the movie has one small flaw towards the end but nothing that will ruin the story .slow pace but very well directed.if you looking for a good drama that will probably leave you talking about it after the movie ends this is it.if you are the tipe of person that needs action and no substance in a movie i say see jackass or red instead.hereafter its a excellent drama

    Terrific Direction, Intelligent Movie

Clint Eastwood shows his skills as a director in this intelligent movie in a genre that won't be to everyone's tastes. Those who love art-house independent cerebral films will LOVE this movie. Others may not. Be warned: about 20% of this film is French with English subtitles...entirely appropriate in adding global realism to the film, but it may scare some viewers away.

Just wasn't as fascinating as it looks...

This can wait for one of those Netflix, OnDemand, AppleTV/ iTunes I'm on a plane, train or backseat trip moments.

The first 20 minutes have the most suspense. After that you expect at least 1 or 2 more climax scenes... and it never happens. The ending was surprisingly odd too... completely (ok not COMPLETELY) unrelated to what you expect.

I can't say that its the movies fault (although the storyline isn't that strong), but we as 21st century entertainees, who have been enticed by greats like The Sixth Sense, which had us watching it two and three times because it got better with discoveries each time, this just doesn't deliver enough.

It wasn't a Disaster, cheeky and unoriginal with the events, but not pack my crap and walk out the theater though (mostly in part because you want to believe that something amazing is coming).

In short, save your $8-13 and spend $3-5 later. It can wait.

    Moving, emotional and real

    by MBFisc

Never mind what the naysayers on here are saying. Unless you are a feeling-less and unemotional person who only likes action packed films with contrived story lines you will love this movie. It is a beautifully done film, filled with the substance of real life. Clint Eastwood is masterful film director!

On so many occasions I was trying hard to hide my tears.

I saw the movie Hereafter and it was one of the most moving movies I have ever seen... the Opening Tsunami scene was so powerful I could not look at the screen and on so many occasions I was trying hard to hide my tears. The ending was great and showed how in life, we all do come FULL CIRCLE!

Expected more from an Eastwood movie...

...as well as the title. This movie didn't approach any ideas about the Hereafter, simply Damon's character's ability to contact dead and tell people if a loved one might be saying something to them. It was good enough for matinee price, but in my case,I could be thinking that just because Matt Damon is so good. If it was not an actor I liked,or an unknown,I may advise not to spend any money. It was ok,just not riveting or suspenseful in the least. Don't know what the woman's book could have been about, enjoyed the little boy's persistence...but don't spend any more than 5 dollars. Wait really.

    Good film. would recommend.

Matt Damon along with first time actors Frankie and George McLaren make this movie well worth the price of admission. Clint Eastwood directs this Steven Spielberg produced film. Despite less than spectacular reviews, it's still worth seeing.

    For intelligent moviegoers

If you are looking for a fastpaced movie, go elsewhere. If you are looking for a movie that explores the depth of true storytelling, or one that examines each character and makes you care deeply for each one or a movie that makes you truly hope that there are other movies like this one to follow- go see this one...but no, it is not for everyone. It was for me.

    Thoughtful, insightful and riveting

I was given a heads up about this film by Michael Medved and he was right on. The opening scene is most realistic and has a huge impact. I live 100 yds. form the beach in Hawaii and this is exactly what one would expect to see in a tsunami.
The cast, Clint Eastwood direction and Speilberg production conspire to create a story and stories within the story that ring true.
Cecile de France is spectacular as a sophisticated French newswoman who deals with her own actual near death experience despite the sketicism of her collegues.
Matt Damon is careful to play his part as a reluctant psychic with subtlety. The young boy is a standout as a lonely son of a substance abusing mother and twin of a boy killed in a random accident. His sad eyes and stoic search for his brothers whereabouts are heart rending.
Both my husband and I enjoyed this unusual and interesting film.

    A Thoughtful and Introspective Movie

It's sad that US audiences expect car chases, gun fights, and explosions to be a part of a good movie. It seems that acting and, more importantly, a good script mean less and less to the average movie goer. Hereafter is a perfect example of the latter. Matt Damon does a very believable job as the psychic, and he is supported by an excellent cast including Ms, Lefrance in the first performance I;ve seen of her. See this movie with someone you know. You;ll want to talk about it afterwards, I guarantee.

    Unfortunate

    by JLNYC

I had great hope for this movie but unfortunately it was bad. There is no insight into the afterlife, like at all. His visions are never explained and he does readings that tell people what they already know. The plot is all over the place and it is poorly edited. Don't even wait for DVD, wait for TBS
