The morning after he completed filming his eight-hour study of the Empire State Building, Empire, Andy Warhol used the same rented camera and two leftover 1200-foot film magazines to make this silent feature-length portrait of Henry Geldzahler. Geldzahler was at the time a curator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and a friend and supporter of Warhol. This film was one of few instances where Warhol actually did simply turn on the camera and leave the room, returning only to change film magazines midway through the shoot. Sitting on a couch and armed with a cigar and a pair of sunglasses, Geldzahler at first seems to regard the camera as a challenge, but through the course of the film his haughty demeanor crumbles under the weight of his boredom, and he ends up curled in a fetal position, waiting for the film to run out. ~ Tom Vick, Rovi
