Harry Hasdock (Fred Burton), called "Heliotrope Harry" because he favors the flower's scent, is spending his life behind bars. His wife, Josephine (Julia Swayne Gordon) is still involved in criminal activity, while their daughter (Diana Allen) was told she is an orphan and has been raised in a convent with the name Alice Hale. Harry hears that Alice is engaged to a wealthy young man, Jimmie Andrews (Wilfred Lytell), and that Josephine is planning a little blackmail scheme so she can get some of his money. So he convinces the warden and the governor to pardon him and goes after his wife. But instead of taking any direct measures, he spooks her by surrounding her with the scent of heliotrope everywhere she goes. That way she knows that he is out of prison and he's onto her. When they finally do come face to face, she shoots him dead and turns the gun on herself. Thus, Alice marries, never knowing her parents were crooks.
