The Heart Thief was put together at the behest of Cecil B. DeMille, who didn't want his new contract player Joseph Schildkraut to sit around idle. Schildkraut is cast as a romantic young blade who is hired to break up the romance between a foolish old nobleman and a supposed golddigger (Lya de Putti). Our "hero" is to woo away the girl, seduce her and leave her in disgrace. Upon discovering that his victim-to-be is actually the first woman he ever loved, Schildkraut changes his mind -- or does he? Though supposedly set in Europe, The Heart Thief has a decided New York "feel" to its lavish interior sets. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
