Fairy Tale for Big Kids...

By Bearfist

I enjoyed it a lot. You have to leave old "Aunt Martha" outside and let you inner kid enjoy it. Lots of Witch-Fu action scenes. Beautiful special effects and great characters. I'd love to see a sequel. I'll go back to see it in 3D if I get a chance. I'm just not paying $16+. They got to bring down those ticket prices. Very sparce attendence in the whole theater. Cut the ticket-prices and fill the theaters. But go see this one if you like fantasy adventures.

The critics are wrong again....

I don't understand why some movies get such low ratings from critics. Its almost as if its not a "life-affirming" movie or if its not the new types of movies that make you wonder what the hell the movie was even about-the critics don't like it. This movie isn't an award-winning movie by any means but that doesn't mean it isn't entertaining. Its a very neat twist on an old fairy tale. The cast is great & the story is fun. It's what its meant to be....just 90 minutes of entertainment. It has action, suspense, love, witchcraft & a** kicking. I enjoyed it. It isn't for little kids b/c of nudity but it is worth a watch if you like these types of movies! Enjoy!!

Unbelievably Bad

This movie proves, once and for all, that you can make a special-effects-heavy action movie out of anything. The children's tale of Hansel and Gretel seems like a likely candidate for story massacring, but it just doesn't work here. The witches are turned into magic-wielding villans who fly around and kill children for ritual sport. I sat back in my seat in amazement at how bad this movie was and yet no one in the theater was leaving, including myself. I supposed we were all glued to the seat with shock. There's no other explanation.

I love this movie & I'm usually the first to nit pick at movie based on fairy tales or books. It was a continuous pace, no boring lag time & it had a lot of action sequences. I seriously love the little stuff like "sugar sickness" & the way they both got there assess kicked. Even tho a lot of the story line is predictable, it doesn't take away from it. It was so well done you barely had time to register your victory at being right. The actors were very likable as their characters but I must admit that at times the chemistry between the 2 main actors bordered on awkward. During a couple of scenes I didn't feel the brotherly sisterly love, instead I was left sitting there feeling a tad uncomfortable & thinking they might have been better suited for a different storyline or different characters. Not to say Jeremy Renner wasn't a great Hansel or that Gemma Arterton was the best damn Gretel yet but I noticed my friend and I awkwardly glancing at each other thru certain scenes between the 2.

I give this movie a C+ rating. Overall. this movie isn't for children, and is rather violent. I especially loved the opening credit graphics. The overall sound, visuals, and soundtrack were above average, as well as the amusing story plot. Go and see this!
