In 17th-century Hungary, portions were still in the hands of the Ottoman Turks, and other areas, largely free, were actively resisting takeover by the Austrian Empire. The Hajduks were a bandit group which fought alongside their local dukes to retain their independence. In the story, a group of Hajducks braves the Turks and the Austrians to sell a herd of cattle for money which will be used in the fight for independence. After many adventures, only two survive to tell their countrymen what has happened to them. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi
