Gullivers Travels

Although I really like Jack B. I thought that this was a bit of a bore. The movie is entertaining but it lacks the funny jokes to make it worth the money to see it. The special effects were ok but nothing that looked real. Good flick for the kids as the ones that were in the theater seemed to like it well.

Fun movie - especially if you like Jack Black!

I enjoyed this movie, and my 11 year old son really liked it. It's not going to win any awards, but Jack Black is engaging and enjoyable as Gulliver, and the supporting cast (Jason Segal, Amanda Peet, and Emily Blunt) were fun to watch. The movie is good for kids of all ages - no real problems for younger kids - and one scene (I won't give a spoiler) that is guaranteed to get boys 8-12 laughing!

A Big Story writ small

Gulliver's Travels provides all the reasons to stay home and read the book. This telling of the story is another vehicle to allow Jack Black, who I will admit is a funny guy, to play himself yet again. The problem here is that instead of a story built around his strengths, the film tries to shoehorn him into Swift's tale. The shoe doesn't fit. At its best, the film is generally non offensive. At worst, it is the last three Jack Black movies but without any new charm.
