Delightful and Clever!

The story of Romeo and Juliet has been told and retold. This could have been a stale rehash, were it not for very clever writing, good acting (voices) and the fact that it is visually stunning and detailed. The Elton John music and score doesn't hurt, either. This is definitely a movie that kids will enjoy but so will the adults. There are some genuine laughs that come from Shakespearean references and sight gags that the little ones won't even get. There really is something for everyone. The songs from the Elton John classics library are fun, but what impressed me was the orchestrated score taken from same. At first you don't even notice it, then you find yourself humming the score--wait, I recognize that! I opted not to see it in 3D--I didn't think it would make much difference in this movie. It would be hard to get small children to wear the glasses throughout the movie, too. Definitely take the kids to see this one...or go without the kids. It will be just as much fun!

for being rated g it is alot better than expected. only went to see if with a class mate of mine because we are doing the play but turned out really good. the basic story line is followed compared to original play, some events have changed, some characters left out, but its a kids movie and its great for people that know the play and for kids new to it. i recomend it and even if you dont see it in theaters its deffinetly going to need to be netflixed. now i wouldnt go see the 3d because when i saw the 2d there was nothing that really screamed 3d to me so just go see the 2d, cheaper and still a great movie!

When Shakespeare Meets The Two Star-Crossed Garden Gnome Lovers!

Gnomeo & Juliet is a funny way to spend an evening watching something that you think is just a cartoon, but is so much more than that. It is a Shakespearean rendition of the classic tale of two star-crossed lovers or in this case, two star-crossed porcelain and easily breakable garden gnomes whose families go to war because the humans have gone to war rivaling over whose garden is the best to be. The cartoon version is a retelling of the classic romantic story of Romeo & Juliet, and it is a charming way to see a funny movie filled with great music from Elton John and Bernie Taupin (lyrics for some songs). The ending is different because it is indeed a happy one and not a tragic one, but the gnomes can argue with Patrick Stewart as a statuesque version of Shakespeare on that topic. A lot went into the casting of voices for this film, including the two main actors James McAvoy as Gnomeo and Emily Blunt as Juliet. Jim Cummings v
