The Fair Lawns of Verona Drive

Gnomeo and Juliet puts a charming spin on the Shakespeare classic in its comedic rendition of William Shakespeare?s Romeo and Juliet. The film constantly makes fun of its quirky adaptation style. Its cast of excellent voice actors and animation style make a sweet film of the classic drama.
The bunnies were my favorite characters.

When Shakespeare Meets The Two Star-Crossed Garden Gnome Lovers!

    by

Gnomeo & Juliet is a funny way to spend an evening watching something
that you think is just a cartoon, but is so much more than that. It is
a Shakespearean rendition of the classic tale of two star-crossed
lovers or in this case, two star-crossed porcelain and easily
breakable garden gnomes whose families go to war because the humans
have gone to war rivaling over whose garden is the best to be. The
cartoon version is a retelling of the classic romantic story of Romeo
& Juliet, and it is a charming way to see a funny movie filled with
great music from Elton John and Bernie Taupin (lyrics for some songs).
The ending is different because it is indeed a happy one and not a
tragic one, but the gnomes can argue with Patrick Stewart as a
statuesque version of Shakespeare on that topic. A lot went into the
casting of voices for this film, including the two main actors James
McAvoy as Gnomeo and Emily Blunt as Juliet. Jim Cummings v

Romeo and Juliet meets the smurfs

    by

This movie, although vastly different from the original Romeo and Juliet, has a playful and witty humor. This is a great film for adult and children, the witty humor and adult jokes will keep the adults laughing, while the cute animation and funny character will keep the children entertained. You wont have to worry about not understanding this film, it keeps no original text from Shakespeare, except the famous, "Romeo, Romeo where for..." With an addition of some new characters, a funny flamingo with an endearing back story, and an absence of others, each "star-crossed lover" is missing a parent; this movie will keep you laughing and melt your heart.

    Gnomeo and Juliet

Kelly Asbury?s Gnomeo and Juliet brings new life to this widely known tale. Gnomeo and Juliet is an amusing, animated tale of two gnomes who fall in love despite their families? feud. our gnomes meet and instantly fall in love over an amusing back and forth. This version gives Shakespeare?s characters new animated life. The frog is a vivacious nurse and the flamingo is a lively friar. This version holds surprisingly close to the original series of events in the first half where the gnomes meet, fall in love, purpose starting a garden, and even gnomeo's exile, but then it deviates drastically at the end. Our garden- crossed lovers both live and it ends with peace where there was once war, love for everyone, and of course a song. however kid-friendly this movie is, it also contain some very clever references to the original play for the shakespeare fans and some adult humor as well. This movie is truely fun for the whole family and a delightful comedic version of a widely known tragedy

Not too bad. Could be worse!

The film was cute enough to get my family interested, myself included!
The greatest love story ever known ?has been told. A lot.? Starring red and blue British garden gnomes, Gnomeo and Juliet is yet another adaptation based on the well-known play Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare. Rated a G film, Gnomeo and Juliet was made to be a comical 3D computer-animation, which supported its categorization of family friendly Shakespeare. There were many strategically placed embellishments to the story, allowing Hollywood to create different Shakespeare for the modern day viewer of all ages, which worked for the film alone. However, I believe that Shakespeare would say he'd rather ?die a thousand deaths? than see what happens during the process of film adaptations to one of history?s best known love tragedies. It is not so much the huge change in endings, or the fact that they are gnomes, but it is the fumbling of words and lack of knowledge in some of Romeo and Juliet?s most famous lines

Great for Kids, Shakespeare Fans might get a chuckle

As a very loose adaptation of Shakespare's Romeo and Juliet, this movie gets the job done. The general message of the story is conveyed, and the themes are at least implied, if not entirely put forth in the film. That being said, it does tend to misrepresent the original story in some places, and even leave some elements of the story out. In addition, it makes light of several issues that, in the original play, would be a bit more serious. On the other hand, though, it also makes references that most fans of the original play might understand, and even get a chuckle out of, even if they do happen at the wrong times every once in a while. Overall, if you're looking for a faithful adaptation that just happens to be kid-friendly, this might not be it. However, if you're looking for a re-make that is geared toward kids, but can be enjoyed by the entire family, I'm fairly certain that Gnomeo and Juliet will be able to fill at least part of that role, if not all of it.
